Excalibur Space Invaders and Frogger Mini Arcade Cabinets.

Since I featured some fringe systems that are not for sale earlier today I thought it would be nice to feature something still available for consumption.

Amazon still has a couple Excalibur Space Invaders and Frogger Arcade systems left for sale. Sure they are not as cool as the classic LED mini cabinets but they do still have a nice retro modern look.

They feature.

• Color LCD screen
• Mini arcade joystick
• Authentic retro graphics
• Requires two "AA" batteries (not included)
• The classic video game Frogger in the 1980s portable tabletop console!
• Arcade Hit Classic
• Authentic classic arcade game play and sounds
• Great for the entire family!

Available at the links bellow.

PSP Go disassembled

Level Up a overseas website disassembled a PSP Go and published the results. Kind of cool if you want to see that the insides of a PSP Go look like and don't want to disassemble one your self. The English language site Gizmodo has a nice gallery of pics. Check it out at the link bellow.

Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense available at the app store soon.

I hadn't even heard of "Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense" until Joe Bayen, a CEO at ICS Mobile e-mailed me. My initial thought was "oh great another tower defense game, just what the iPhone needs." Dutifully I watched the promo video bellow and ended up being very interested. The game appears to have all the regular Tower Defense gameplay plus some pared down RTS mechanics. The video bellow becomes interesting and new at about the half way point if you want to judge for yourself.

The RTS elements appear to include experince points, skill trees and, some degree of unit targeting. I'll post a followup once the game is released. It looks like this could be the game to reinvigorate what is rapidly becoming a very tired genre on the iPhone.

Sony Now Shilling for Nintendo?

Go to http://www.pspgo.co.uk/ right now and you are in for a delicious treat. The page currently looks like this.
Rumor has it that Sony refused to buy the site from a registrant in China so the owner cloned Nintendo's site. Hilarious!

UPDATE: Looks like the DSi page is down :(. Still it was funny while it was up.

iPhone games with Bluetooth game controller possible but not supported :(

I really want to enjoy playing Resident Evil 4 on my iPhone but get frustrated by my giant thumbs covering the screen. Even though Bluetooth is supported on the iPhone, Bluetooth game controllers are not. One industrious hacker has managed to make an external controller a reality with the Zeemote JS-1. Simply AWESOME. Come on Apple add bluetooth game controller support!

More Pandora Videos

Every so often a promising new Pandora video appears. This most recent one is of a prototype unit playing PSX games on a made for Linux emulator. Pretty groovy but still needs some work to catch up to what determined hackers have done with the PSP. Even more promising is Quake 3 with dual analogue control sticks. It makes me even more sad that they didn't add a second control stick to the PSP Go.

Double Lawsuit System released for iPhone.

In some sort of bizarre handheld gaming convergence a company called ZM2 has released an app for the iPhone that emulates the Nintendo DS. Not the games but the physical object and front end. I am counting the seconds before it is pulled when Apple gets a friendly call from Nintendo. It is available NOW from the app store, though probably not for much longer.

GBA SP Time Machine: insert "Back to the Future" reference here

Another Famicom to GBA SP adaptor is on the market this time called the "GBA SP Time Machine". For the low price of $39 you can own one. No idea if it is any good but I suspect it is not. Still if you have a lot of Famicom carts, a GBA SP and need a way to to play them on the go, the price is right.

According to the vendor...

"GBA SP Time Machine
1. Play your 8bits Japanese Famicom carts on your GBA SP
2. Built-in speaker, earphone jack
3. GBA game cart and Japanese Famicom carts can plug into it simultaneously
4. Compatible with Japanese Famicom carts only
5. GBA SP console and cartridge are not included

Now you can play your Japanese Famicom carts directly on GBA SP without any emulator. A Time Machine which allows you to play 8 bits Japanese Famicom carts on your GBA has been developed!!! The Time Machine looks like a TV Tuner adaptor but, of course it is smaller than the TV Tuner. Japanese Famicom carts are plugged in at the back of the unit, while the Time Machine sits underneath the GBA SP. 4 AA size batteries are needed for this unit. It only compatible with GBA SP and Japanese NES cartridges. It is easy to use. Just plug it into the GBA SP and you will have fun of 8bits old games. It could be a great product for the Famicom fans who still have their Japanese Famicom carts.
GBA SP console and cartridge are not included"
